UPPERVILLE & WELLINGTON

HISTORY

For nearly two decades, Windsor Farm has developed quality young horses into successful performers at the most elite levels of equestrian sport. Settled on more than 225 luxurious acres in Upperville, VA, Windsor Farm boasts an extensive history of breeding, importing prospects from Europe, and selling top High Junior/Amateur-Owner and FEI horses.

The operation’s track record speaks for itself. Among Windsor Farm’s program graduates are FEI World Cup Finals veteran For Freedom Z; Makavoy, a Nations Cup veteran and winner of Spruce Meadows’ CSIO 5* Encana Cup with Canada’s Ben Asselin; and the Holsteiner mare Anna Bella, a top mount of event rider Kurt Martin who won the CIC*** Fair Hill International; among countless others. All thrived at Windsor Farm, which boasts a huge textile arena, grass field, and countless acres of ride- and turn-out in classic hunt country, Virginia, in addition to a beautiful 17-stall barn.

ALEXA LOWE

First breeding with her mother and then establishing her own business, Alexa Lowe is the operation’s rider and trainer. She boasts a long list of achievements in and out of the saddle, as she was a member of the gold-medal winning 2008 USEF Show Jumping Developing Rider Tour team. She counts numerous grand prix wins and placings on her resume, including at the Hampton Classic, Winter Equestrian Festival, Tryon, Traverse City, Vermont Summer Festival, and the Global Champions Tour, and has ridden and trained with top connections in Europe.

Lowe’s strengths are in the relationships she creates with her horses, and she prides herself in her ability to create an all-encompassing developmental program for young equine talent—from overall health, nutrition, and soundness, to mental happiness. Lowe has fostered lasting relationships with the best farriers and veterinarians, and she treats each horse that enters her program as an individual, knowing what each needs as it is brought along.

Lowe relishes the challenge of competing against the best riders in the world on a daily basis. A versatile, hands-on horsewoman, she began her riding career in Pony Club and 3-day eventing, even working as a groom for Olympic gold medalist Karen O’Connor at the 1994 World Equestrian Games, before finding her way to show jumping. She’s also a health coach and a member of the board of directors at Wild Earth Allies, which works to promote wildlife conservation. She believes in treating both herself and her mounts as high-end athletes, as well as operating with the greatest level of integrity and honesty. With these principles in mind, Lowe has taken Windsor Farm from a major breeding business to specializing in quality High AO and FEI horses, paying attention to every detail along the way.
